For more than a week yesterday, at least 231 students from 18 state universities in Indonesia participated in leadership and defence training at the Magelang Military Academy.

The 231 students who participated in the training were scholarship recipients from PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk, XL Axiata, Deutsche Bank Indonesia 10 and Yayasan Karya Salemba Empat (KSE). The training took place from 29 January to 7 February 2016. For more than a week yesterday, at least 231 students from 18 state universities in Indonesia participated in leadership and defence training at the Magelang Military Academy.

This activity was aimed at reducing the impact of globalisation and producing cadres with a high leadership spirit. 231 students who attended the training were scholarship recipients from PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk, XL Axiata, Deutsche Bank Indonesia 10 and Yayasan Karya Salemba Empat (KSE). The training took place from 29 January-7 February 2016.

During the training, the 231 students will receive materials including Leadership Psychology, State Defence, National Insight, Character Building and Field Science Knowledge.

"In addition to these trainings, we also equip the students with compass knowledge, How to Fight (HTF), Survival, Social Service and others. During the training, the material will be delivered by officers and instructors who have successfully produced candidates for national leaders," said Deputy Governor of Akmil Magelang, Brigadier General Dudung Abdurahman.

He explained that one of the objectives of this training is to reduce the impact of the rapid era of globalisation. This was also conveyed in a speech he read on the sidelines of opening the training at the Indoor Tennis Court, Akmil Magelang Complex, Friday (29/1/2016) yesterday.

According to Dudung, the state defence activity was carried out to foster a sense of nationalism among the younger generation as well as expand national values and national insight for every citizen.

This, he said, needs to be given considering that students are intellectuals and are expected to be able to implement it in social life.

"Because, based on the history of the Indonesian nation, it has proven that students always appear as agents of change, always fighting tenaciously for the interests of the people, nation and state," she explained.

Director of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk, Franciscus Welirang, said that the leadership training activities carried out in collaboration with the Karya Salemba Empat Foundation were attended by students who were recipients of the Indofood Sukses Makmur scholarship programme (BISMA). This activity, he said, had been organised for the seventh time.

"The scholarship is given to students who are unable to afford it by following a fairly strict selection. We collaborate with the Magelang Military Academy in conducting the programme," said Mr Welirang.

According to him, the scholarship recipients also have the opportunity to take part in tiered training, namely Indofood Leadership Camp, which includes communication, personal development, character building, internships and exploration of interests and talents.

Meanwhile, Director & Chief Digital Services Officer, PT XL Axiata Tbk, Ongki Kurniawan said, with this training, it is one of the supports to improve the world of education in Indonesia, while preparing competent future leaders. The activities carried out are part of CSR.
