The series of Technology for Indonesia activities in 2024 in the form of camps and implementation succeeded in creating a sustainability program, namely Alternative Feed. This activity takes place on Jalan Manggarai II No.27. This activity was attended by 6 participants from 5 KSE partner state universities who are interested in innovation in the feed sector. This activity will be carried out from 4-24 November 2024 to develop feed products that have been created previously.
For 21 consecutive days, Alternative Feed members compiled activities to create quality products. Activities carried out include:
1. Focus Group Discussion
2. Market Survey
3. Making Feed Formulations
4. Preparation of tools and materials
5. Production Stages 1 and 2
6. Lab Test and Palatability
7. Formula Evaluation
8. Preparation of Journals and Articles
Starting on the first day, the Alternative Feed members held a Focus Group Discussion led directly by Mr. Hengky Poerwowidagdo - Chief Operating Officer of KSE. Mr. Hengky Poerwowidagdo provides motivation and direction to make this activity run smoothly. Furthermore, all feed members are invited to discuss the timeline and design of the feed formulation that will be made. After the Focus Group Discussion, the members took the time to go to the market to start providing the equipment needed to make feed.
On the following day, November 7, 2024, members of Alternative Feed conducting market research (consumers and competitors). This market research was carried out to determine the market price of fish pellet feed and the nutrient content of the pellets on the market.
Next, for 5 consecutive days, the Alternative Feed members prepared tools and materials and began to formulate the materials that would be used to perfect the previous formulation. Even though there was a failure in the process of making the pellets in variation 3, this could be handled well by the members. Good collaboration between members is one of the keys to the success of making this alternative feed.
On Thursday, November 14 2024, all members of Alternative Feed carried out lab tests and palatability tests at IPB University, Bogor. Lab tests in the form of proximate tests are carried out at the Feed Science and Technology Laboratory. Meanwhile, the palatability test was carried out at the BDP FPIK IPB Experimental Pond in the form of feeding the fish there.
On Sunday, November 17 2024, all members carried out an evaluation regarding the results of the proximate test carried out the previous day. On 4 consecutive days, the Alternative Feed members made feed with a different formula because the lab test results had not reached the desired protein target. The new feed formulation is obtained from the collaboration and discussion of all members to create the best results. After the pellets had been made, a second lab test was carried out in the form of a proximate test at the same place, namely the Feed Science and Technology Laboratory, IPB University, Bogor.
The 2nd lab test that was carried out produced results that were as expected. After carrying out lab tests, the activity continued with a direct inspection of the feed manufacturing location by Mr. Wing, who was present at that time. On this occasion, the Alternative Feed members explained in detail the results of the feed that had been made and what the plans were for the future so that this program could continue. It is hoped that this activity will benefit the surrounding community because the products produced utilize ingredients that are abundant in the surrounding environment.
