Day One: Exploring Dreams and Finding Solutions

In the opening session, the students were divided into two groups and guided to share their dreams for the future, including their dream profession and expected salary. Many students aspire to become professionals in the engineering field, either in the private sector or academia.

After describing their goals, the students identified obstacles in realizing their dreams. External factors such as differences in desires between parents and themselves were the main obstacles, while internal factors such as overthinking, lack of self-confidence, and poor time management were also challenges.

To overcome these obstacles, students are paired with individuals who have different challenges. They provide solutions to each other, such as implementing journaling techniques to improve time management and recognizing one's strengths so as not to get caught up in overthinking. The suggestions that emerge are then presented so that all students gain broader insights. The session continues with a brief presentation by Hengky Poerwowidagdo regarding the philosophy and values of KSE. Students are introduced to the history and roles of the people behind KSE to foster enthusiasm and pride as students.

Next, coaching focuses on managing the association. Beswan who are members of the ITS KSE Association explained their work programs, both internal and external. In order to increase the effectiveness of the organization, beswan agreed to make the ITS KSE Association a technology-oriented community. For this reason, six working groups were formed with different focuses, namely:

      1. Lindi

  1. Pirolisis
  2. Paving Blok from Waste Tires
  3. Event
  4. Marketing
  5. Report

Each group discussed their work plan. The Pyrolysis group tried to perfect the tool to be more environmentally friendly, while the Lindi group designed the use of organic waste as electricity fuel. The Paving Block group explored the best formulation in processing used tires. Meanwhile, the Event group prepared a short to long term agenda, the Marketing group looked for a profitable marketing strategy, and the Report group designed an activity documentation system to strengthen relations with the rectorate.

The discussion was closed with presentations from each group, followed by cheers that added to the spirit of the beswan. The KSE team provided input as a form of evaluation to improve the future work plan. The first day of coaching at ITS took place with great enthusiasm and deep reflection. The second day will continue with an agenda that is no less interesting to further develop the potential of the KSE scholarship recipients.

Coaching at ITS: Day Two

After the presentation on the first day, all groups were given the opportunity to refine their discussion results. This refinement included adding comments from the previous session, creating presentation materials in a more formal format, and further development such as compiling an implementation timeline, budget, and SWOT analysis.

Each group then delivered their final presentation with more maturity. The Pyrolysis Group has completed their plan with the calculation of Cost of Goods Sold (HPP), which shows that the price of their product can be much cheaper than the price of diesel on the market. The Paving Block Group has refined the product formulation by increasing the proportion of tire waste in the material composition, while the Event Group has updated the concept and timeline of the event designed to be more structured and effective.

After the presentation session, the event continued with a session of sharing experiences with KSE ITS alumni who still live in Surabaya. Five alumni attended this session, namely Nuhadi, Ega, Azzam, Adit, and Faisol. On this occasion, they shared their experiences regarding the journey of the KSE ITS association in their era and provided tips and tricks in facing the world of work. The five alumni are part of the KSE Entrepreneur Academy, so they highlighted how doing business remains a realistic choice for engineering students.

They also shared strategies so that businesses can run smoothly amidst existing challenges. The enthusiasm of the KSE ITS scholarship recipients was very high, as seen from the many questions asked, both regarding the association and challenges in the world of work. This sharing session is expected to strengthen the relationship between beswan and alumni. By maintaining this bond of brotherhood, KSE ITS beswan can gain various benefits, both personally and in managing the association in the future.

KSE UNAIR Coaching: First Day

Similar to KSE ITS, KSE UNAIR coaching also began with a personal coaching session guided by Mr. Hengky Poerwowidagdo and Maya Dintasari. The beswan were divided into two groups, each given the opportunity to introduce themselves by stating their name, major, and area of origin. After that, they were asked to tell each individual's dream.

Unlike coaching at ITS where the majority of students aspire to become engineers, at KSE UNAIR the students' dreams are more diverse. Some want to become entrepreneurs, professionals in finance, data analysts, diplomats, doctors, and even academics who continue their studies. After sharing their dreams, the students then identify the obstacles they face, both from internal and external factors. Some internal obstacles that often arise include overthinking, lack of discipline, low self-confidence, and poor time management. Meanwhile, external obstacles generally come from the surrounding environment and parental expectations that are not always in line with their wishes.

Once the obstacles are mapped, the students are paired with individuals who have different obstacles. Each pair exchanges solutions to overcome their respective obstacles. For example, for those who have obstacles in time management, it is recommended to try journaling techniques to be more organized in carrying out daily activities. To overcome overthinking, students are encouraged to recognize their own strengths and not think too much about other people's opinions. The suggestions that emerge in this discussion are then presented in front of the group so that they can be a reference for other students who face similar challenges.

After the personal dream session, the coaching continued with an introduction to KSE by Mr. Hengky Poerwowidagdo. He explained how KSE works, the values that can be taken by the scholarship recipients, and introduced the figures behind the scenes of KSE, from the founder to the current management. This presentation aims to increase the scholarship recipients' understanding of KSE and motivate them to be more enthusiastic in undergoing this scholarship program.

Day Two: Community Program Development

On the second day, coaching focused on community program development. Mr. Hengky randomly appointed several beswan to explain the work program of the KSE UNAIR community, both internal and external. Furthermore, the beswan were divided into six groups, namely:

  1. Maspokat dan Mocho (Rebranding)
  2. Sterotion (Sterofoam from Fruit Waste)
  3. Event
  4. Marketing
  5. Report
  6. Edukasi

In the first group, Maspokat and Mocho were developed with new branding that was no longer based on a franchise system. The new product developed was ApoShake, with an innovation in serving in various variants, including in a warm form. In addition, they also looked for side snack options that could increase purchasing power. The Sterotion group focused on making styrofoam from organic waste that has the ability to retain heat and cold longer according to the temperature of the food. Meanwhile, the Event group designed an event to introduce KSE to the community and involve more parties. The Education group targeted the sustainability of the previously running tutoring program for children. The Marketing group developed a strategy to increase sales of the association's products and ensure that the designed events could generate optimal profits. Meanwhile, the Report group was tasked with compiling a report on the association's activities to be submitted to the campus in order to facilitate communication and support from the supervising lecturer.

After the first presentation, each group received feedback on the concept and implementation of their program. The beneficiaries were given the opportunity to make improvements by adding important elements such as the implementation timeline, the budget needed, and a SWOT analysis to assess the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges of each program.

In the final presentation session, the students presented the results of their discussions that had been updated based on previous input. With this improvement, it is hoped that the designed community program can be more mature and ready to be implemented effectively. This KSE UNAIR Coaching not only helps students explore their potential and recognize the obstacles they face, but also builds collaborative skills in designing programs that are beneficial to the community and the surrounding community.
