A story that began at a renowned university in Indonesia, Padjadjaran University (UNPAD). Deya discovered her calling in the world of nursing. Although she initially dreamed of becoming a doctor, fate led her down an unexpected but meaningful path.
Deya has always had a deep desire to help others, and healthcare is her calling. Deya loves the nursing profession because nurses are at the forefront of healthcare services. One morning, amid the hustle and bustle of the Padjadjaran University (UNPAD) campus, Deya sat in the library, surrounded by stacks of thick books on community nursing. It had been several weeks since she submitted her application for the Karya Salemba Empat (KSE) scholarship, an opportunity that not only provided financial support but was also seen by her as recognition of her dedication to the field of healthcare.

Something suddenly made her heart flutter when she opened the message, quickly reading every word that was written. “Congratulations on being selected as one of this year’s Karya Salemba Empat scholarship recipients,” it said. Deya could hardly believe what she was reading. Her eyes welled up with tears of joy as she closed the email message on the library computer while tidying up the books scattered on her desk.
The Karya Salemba Empat (KSE) scholarship is not just financial assistance for Deya, but a great opportunity that opens the door to comprehensive personal development. With various development programmes on offer, such as workshops, seminars and specialised training, KSE enables Deya to not only improve her academic skills, but also to develop her leadership abilities and extensive networking skills.
During her time as a Karya Salemba Empat (KSE) scholarship recipient at Padjadjaran University (UNPAD), Deya not only received, but also gave back to the community through various beneficial initiatives. One of the valuable contributions that Deya and her fellow KSE scholarship recipients have made is through a free tutoring programme known as Rujak (Rumah Jatinangor Kita). Rujak is a secretariat that serves as a base of operations for KSE scholarship recipients at UNPAD.
For Deya, participating in Rujak is an opportunity to implement the values of solidarity and social contribution that have been instilled in her through her life experiences. With a firm commitment to making a positive impact in her community, Deya humbly expresses her gratitude to Karya Salemba Empat for their assistance and support throughout her academic journey.
Challenges in a Foreign Land
After completing her studies at UNPAD, Deya began her career in the healthcare business as a Product Specialist at IDS Medical Systems (idsMED). The company is one of Asia’s largest providers of integrated medical equipment, supplies and services.

Working in a large company such as idsMED, which has extensive coverage in the healthcare industry, provided Deya with many opportunities to expand her network and enhance her professional knowledge. Her drive to continuously improve her knowledge led Deya to take a big step by submitting a thesis proposal in community nursing to obtain a master’s scholarship at Prince of Songkla University, Thailand. In this culturally different country, Deya explored nursing science in greater depth. Deya’s nursing studies were fraught with obstacles. Initially, even getting into Padjadjaran University (Unpad) was difficult because it was not her first choice. However, after receiving the scholarship, I was motivated to continue studying and pursue a master’s degree in Thailand. I faced language and regulatory barriers that prevented me from immediately practising with patients. In addition, Deya also joined the Junior Researchers programme at her university. As a Junior Researcher at the Prince of Songkla University Graduate School, Deya dedicated her time to studying the field of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Deya’s research is not just about numbers and data. It is a journey into a world full of challenges and hopes, an effort to understand and overcome the obstacles faced by TBI survivors as they try to reintegrate into society. In her study, Deya does not stop at theory. She delves into in-depth case studies, observing every detail of the unique experiences and challenges faced by each TBI patient. From each story, she seeks insights that can reveal the factors that influence recovery and final outcomes.
In every step of this research, Deya found strength and inspiration. She knew that even the smallest discovery could bring new light to those trapped in the darkness of trauma. Through her research efforts, Deya was able to expand knowledge about Traumatic Brain Injury, offering valuable insights that could inform future research, clinical practice, and policy decisions to improve the lives of TBI survivors and their families.
Returning to the Motherland
Deya returned to Indonesia in 2017. During her nearly two months at UNPAD, Dya received information that the private university Universitas Bakti Kencana was looking for lecturers who had graduated from overseas universities. Deya met the criteria and decided to devote herself to teaching at Universitas Bhakti Kencana for nearly two years.
As a dedicated educator, Deya is committed to providing her students with a profound educational experience. She is actively involved in preparing and delivering various forms of learning, including lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars. By immersing herself in teaching and research, Deya is able to provide her students with a deep and comprehensive educational experience. In the soft glow of the light from outside her spacious bedroom window, Deya sits pensively, staring at a piece of paper in front of her with a determined look. Her long journey from Thailand back to Indonesia presented new challenges, such as working as a lecturer and sharing her knowledge, which challenged Deya’s mind and strengthened her determination to combine nursing science with management.
Deya became increasingly aware of the need for in-depth business knowledge. This motivated her to continue her education at a higher level, at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). Deya returned to university at ITB, majoring in Business Administration. Deya felt that learning from YouTube and LinkedIn was not enough for her. She wanted to experience learning directly from the experts at ITB. In Deya’s eyes, education is not just a process of obtaining a degree. She sees it as a long journey to continuously develop herself, inspire others, and have a positive influence on those around her.
Balancing Two Worlds
Deya was faced with two career choices: nurse or business manager. Deya’s main consideration is earning more money to support her family. Deya is also interested in the world of health and wants to get the latest information on health technology. Deya once conducted research for 6 months at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS), where she gained new motivation. Her experience at the clinic showed her how the knowledge she learned in class could be applied directly.
She took the initiative to communicate with her colleagues about the difficulties she faced, both with her superiors and her friends. Thanks to this open communication, Deya received solutions and advice that helped her better understand the work culture and improve her time management skills. Working at a medical equipment distributor, Deya’s Master’s degree in Community Nursing in Thailand enabled her to mature in implementing her knowledge, work culture, and time management skills at the company. This is evident in Deya’s journey from 2017 to 2022 working at GE Healthcare, a large American company. In addition, Deya successfully implemented a customer segmentation strategy that supported targeted marketing campaigns and earned her recognition as a leader with the best performance and strong leadership culture in 2022.

The Symphony of Knowledge and Career Bridges
In February 2024, Deya stood in front of the Arkadia Office Park building, gazing at her company’s logo displayed there. Since joining as Business Manager, her life had been full of new dynamics and challenges.
Deya stepped inside, into a large room with a conference table and leather chairs. In front of a large screen, a presentation on the new business strategy was ready to be shown. She looked at the serious faces around the table, knowing that every word she uttered had to be precise and convincing.
“I like the approach you proposed for operational efficiency,” said one of the leaders after the presentation was over. “But what about the risks that may arise?” “We have taken various risks into account and prepared several mitigations. One of them is intensive training for the production team,” replied Deya firmly. The finance director nodded, looking satisfied with the answer.
Amidst the ever-evolving dynamics of the healthcare industry, Deya faces challenges that drive her to constantly innovate and adapt. Her expertise in combining healthcare knowledge with business strategy makes Deya a valuable asset to Siemens Healthineers. Deya’s career at Siemens Healthineers not only reflects outstanding individual achievements but also a commitment to continuously raising the standards and quality of healthcare services through innovation and visionary leadership.
Amidst the challenges and dynamics of the ever-changing healthcare industry, Deya has been able to develop adaptive and innovative strategies, combining clinical insights with business knowledge to produce comprehensive and sustainable solutions. Throughout her career, Deya has honed her skills in business strategy, business development, sales and marketing management, process improvement, and collaboration. Every step of Deya’s career journey has been marked by dedication and a passion for learning and growth. From starting as a nurse, delving into business management studies, to becoming a manager at Siemens Healthineers.

Curiosity Opens Up New Horizons
Deya has a strong sense of curiosity, always with a myriad of questions in her mind. One day, Deya heard about the Karya Salemba Empat Scholarship. Her curiosity led her to find out more about the scholarship. Deya’s persistence in asking questions yielded remarkable results. She successfully obtained the Karya Salemba Empat Scholarship and even got the opportunity to study in Thailand. Her persistence in seeking information brought brilliant results. Not only that, Deya also managed to get the job she dreamed of, all thanks to the information she obtained from the people she asked. Deya’s journey is clear proof that with determination, hard work, and an unyielding spirit, one can achieve their dreams and bring about positive change.
