Karya Salemba Empat Foundation conducted training on Plastic Waste Management together with PT Cikarang Listrindo and Give2Asia which was held in Bali on 09 – 11 June 2023. Participants who took part in this activity were 10 student representatives from the KSE Association UNJ, UI, UINJKT, UNHAS, UNMUL, UNDIP, UNUD, UNPATTI, and UNCEN and 11 community representatives from the Community Waste Bank Comdev. This activity is also in collaboration with Sungai Watch and Wedoo Workshop.

This activity begins with a visit to the Sungai Watch Station. Participants carried out activities together with Sungai Watch located in Tabanan, Bali. In this activity, participants were explained how the river watch system works, starting from the organizational structure to the activities within it. Not only that, participants were also shown the activity of sorting waste according to the categories of waste collected. The main aim of this activity is to form the participants’ mindset regarding environmental cleanliness by seeing and knowing firsthand how a community can have a movement that has a big impact on the world. After the activities at the river watch station, the participants rushed to the next activity, namely the river crossing activity which was carried out together with the river watch team. All participants took part directly to clean up the rubbish that had piled up in the irrigation canal. In a period of 2 hours, 800 kg of waste was collected.

On the following day, after a mindset about environmental cleanliness was formed, it was followed by a visit to the Wedoo Workshop which is a place for managing plastic waste. Wedoo Workshop collects waste that will be processed into high-value goods. Such as tables, chairs, and so on. At the Wedoo Workshop, the participants were quite enthusiastic to see how waste that had previously been considered worthless could be transformed into items that were very useful and even of high value. At Wedoo, the participants were also given a demonstration on the use of tools used in the process of making items from plastic waste.

After the visit to the Wedoo Workshop, the activity continued with a visit to the cleanest village in the world, namely Penglipuran Village. In Penglipuran Village, one of the tour guides explained how waste is managed in Penglipuran Village so that the environment can always be clean and related to the consistency of the residents to work together to protect the environment so that they can produce something meaningful.

On this last day, Coaching, FGD (Focus Group Discussion) and Evaluation sessions were held. Participants were asked to review the results of the 2 days of activities, then carry out coaching and FGD which discussed obstacles during the running of the Waste Bank Comdev, progress and what the community expected for the Waste Bank Comdev. Participants were divided into 2 groups, namely community groups and student groups, and in the final session a presentation was made. After all the participants had made their presentations, a representative from one of the donors, namely Mrs. Juanita Theodora, gave some conclusions on how to start a good program so that during the course of the program it can run smoothly and be successful.
