SIMPIC: Global Microbiology Competition Connecting Medical Students Worldwide

SIMPIC is an international competition in microbiology, parasitology, and immunology that is held annually. This event is participated in by various countries, including Malaysia, Bangladesh, India, Thailand, Japan, China, Cambodia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, Mongolia, and the United Kingdom. Before becoming finalists (SIMPIC participants), teams participating in this competition must first pass document screening, essay writing, and motivation letter assessments.

After being declared successful, the team will be entitled to participate in the next competition at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand for 4 days. SIMPIC does not only consist of competitions, but also includes visits to Siriraj Hospital, an introduction to Thai culture, Thai Village, and visits to historical sites.

The participation of the Unsyiah team in this competition aims to increase competitiveness among medical students, add to their experience, and to determine the extent of their mastery of microbiology and immunology so that they are motivated to continue developing. Behind the fierce competition among the delegates, the main objective of SIMPIC is not competition, but to build networking among medical students from around the world. SIMPIC was born out of a desire to unite students.
